Any person or entity involved in manufacturing, processing, storing, distributing, or selling food — including restaurants, manufacturers, traders, home-based food sellers, and importers/exporters — must obtain FSSAI Registration or License under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

To register, visit the official portal foscos.fssai.gov.in. Create an account, select the appropriate registration/license type (Basic, State, or Central), fill in your business details, upload documents, and pay the applicable fee. With FSSAI Sewa, we handle this entire process for you.

FSSAI "Registration" (Basic) applies to small food businesses with turnover under ₹12 lakh. FSSAI "License" (State or Central) applies to medium and large businesses based on turnover and scale of operations. Both result in a 14-digit FSSAI number.

Log in to the FoSCoS portal with your application reference number and registered mobile number, then navigate to your application or license dashboard to download the certificate as a PDF. We can also handle this for you through our Download Certificate service.

You can retrieve your FSSAI number from the FoSCoS portal using your registered mobile number or email ID, or check it on any of your old invoices or product packaging. Our support team can also help you locate it.

Log in to the FoSCoS portal, go to "License/Registration Management," select "Modification," and update the required details such as address, product categories, or business name. Supporting documents must be uploaded, and some changes may trigger an inspection.

Basic Registration is usually processed within 7 days (often issued instantly as a temporary number). State and Central Licenses can take 30–60 days, depending on document verification and inspection requirements.

An FSSAI license builds consumer trust, is legally mandatory to operate a food business, enables business expansion and exports, supports marketing and branding efforts, and ensures accountability and transparency across the food supply chain.

Basic Registration and State Licenses are valid only within the issuing state. A Central License is required for businesses operating in more than one state or involved in import/export.

Operating a food business without valid FSSAI authorization is a punishable offence under Section 63 of the FSS Act, attracting a fine of up to ₹5 lakh and imprisonment of up to 6 months.
